Grading Information

Grading Syllabus and Grading Rules

Shokotan Karate operates a series of grades, or belts, which mark out your progress in this traditional fighting art.  Your instructors will let you know when you have advanced enough in your training to be considered for grading to the next level.

Grading Criteria

1. A minimum period of 3 months must be allowed between each Kyu grade.

2. Students achieving  full 1st Kyu must allow a minimum period of 6 months before taking Shodan grading.

3. The minimum period between grades shall be as given in JKA World Federation rules.

4. Students failing a grade must wait a further period of time as indicated by the grading examiner before re-grading.

5. Karateka from other Associations may retain their achieved grade, however you may be requested to confirm their grade with a JKA KDS examiner.

6. Students must hold a valid JKA KDS licence before taking a grade.
